International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church

"Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering." –Hebrews 13:3

airliftThe next two Sundays—Nov. 2 and 9—are the annual International Days of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP), and Believers everywhere are invited to join together in intercession for those who are being persecuted for their faith in Jesus.

This year we've seen the persecution of Christians come to the forefront of media with the courage of Meriam Ibrahim from Sudan, Pastors Saeed Abedini and Farshid Fathi in Iran, and Asia Bibi in Pakistan—all who have refused to renounce their faith in Christ though they are facing prison, beatings and death.

Christians everywhere can join with Meriam, now sheltered in America, and Pastor Saeed's wife, Naghmeh in praying for the release of those imprisoned for their faith, and also the thousands of Christian refugees who have fled the terror of ISIS and other Islamic Jihadists in Iraq and Syria.

One good resource for prayer for the persecuted is the Critical Prayer Requests website (click here), as well as that of the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church site (click here).

Scripture calls us to pray for our brothers and sisters-in-the-faith.

"Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering." –Hebrews 13:3

"Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you endured in a great conflict full of suffering. Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded." –Hebrews 10:32-28
