A national movement is underway called "In God We Trust-America," with nearly 400 cities and counties in 23 states voting to display the motto so far.

council(Tacoma, WA)—The state of Washington is set to make history after council members in Pierce County passed a resolution to prominently display the national motto—"In God We Trust"—in their council chambers.

Incredibly, it will mark the first time a municipality in Washington has displayed the motto.

According to King 5 News, the council meeting "featured a lively debate … with other council members introducing "several late amendments they admitted were designed to showcase the 'absurdity' of the discussion [but] they failed."

After the 4-3 vote was taken, Councilman Jim McCune, who supported the resolution, said, "'In God We Trust' is universal. It's a statement used all over the world … [and] a profound source of strength and guidance."

KOMO News in Seattle, quoted McCune as saying our motto is inspiring, patriotic, and something to be proud of. The report also noted that the resolution is part of a national movement to display the motto in local government buildings.

Jacquie Sherman, Founder and President of "In God We Trust-America" said, "Patriotism, in my view, [is] love of God and love of country in that order. Our rights and freedoms come from God, not from government."
