(Hollywood, CA) - Can Ridley Scott, famed director of Gladiator, come close to pleasing audiences with this new film Exodus as the original Ten Commandments did with Americans when it hit the screen in 1956? Although only time will tell, according to Oscar-winning actor Christian Bale, playing the lead role of Moses, it will be a hit.

"Charlton Heston does Charlton Heston better than anyone," joked Bale, who stipulated in his contract that there be no fake beards, "The Biblical account of Moses is extraordinary and there was lots of room for us to go places that [the original] Ten Commandments never dreamed of going."

"There is nothing mild about the Exodus or Moses," added Bale.

In addition to Bale playing Moses, actors in the film include: Joe Edgerton as Moses' adopted royal brother, Aaron Paul as Hebrew slave Joshua, Sigourney Weaver as Ramses' mother Tuya, Ben Kingsley as a Hebrew scholar, and John Turturro as Ramses' father Seti.

This will be the 22nd film for director Scott, who shot the film in Spain. "I haven't had that much fun in a while," he said of the filming.

Exodus is scheduled to be released to theaters before Christmas Day 2014.
