"It is encouraging. Yesterday, the US Navy, along with our Australian counterparts did detect a pinging signal... over a pretty significant amount of time in the search area."

Malaysian Defense Minister Hishammuddin Hussein told reporters at a briefing in Kuala Lampur Monday, "I have always said to the families: 'miracles do happen.' We continue to hope and pray for survivors," he added, according to a report in the UK newspaper, The Telegraph.

However, Angus Houston, who heads the rescue effort by Australia and the US, warned that "all we have are some pulse signals, and in the ocean, those could be from a number of things."
