Deadly 8.2 Magnitude Quake in Chile Leaves Thousands Displaced

On Tuesday night at 8:46pm local time in Chile, an 8.2 earthquake struck off the South American country’s coast, forcing thousands from their homes and prompting multiple tsunami warnings.

According to a CBN News report, at least five people died in the quake and over 80,000 were displaced. In addition, 300 prisoners escaped from a women’s prison in the city of Iquique, CBS News noted.

Experts warn that while this quake was large, it wasn't "the big one."

"We expect another 8.8, 8.9 earthquake here sometime in the future," Mark Simons, a seismology professor at CalTech, said. "It could be tomorrow; it could be in 50 years."
