Gov Jan Brewer(Arizona)—According to a CBN News report, Governor Jan Brewer has vetoed the "Religious Freedom Act," which would have given businesses the right to deny service to members of the gay community on religious grounds.

As the bill made its way through the Arizona legislature, many began to condemn it, saying it was a sort of "Jim Crow Laws" for gays.

The NFL had threatened to choose another location for next year's Super Bowl, and Major League Baseball also sided with opposition to the bill.

In vetoing it, Governor Brewer noted that the measure could bring on more trouble than it prevents, stating that it was "broadly worded and could result in unintended and negative consequences."

However, state Sen. Al Melvin disagreed with the governor's decision, saying, "I'm sure it was a difficult choice for her, but it is a sad day when protecting liberty is considered controversial."
