Over the weekend, the casualty count rose, and is estimated that about 10,000 people were killed in Tacloban alone, which is the Leyte provincial capital of 200,000 people, the AP, Fox News report said. Nearly the entire city is said to have been destroyed, and horrific accounts from victims include children being ripped from the arms of parents by the massive storm surge.

In addition to the huge effort underway to rescue those still trapped by debris from the storm, or to recover bodies, are widespread reports of looting which have hampered those rescue and recovery missions.
