Massive Air Search and Rescue in Colorado as Counties Cleanup from Floods

Authorities expect the death toll to rise in coming days.

(Estes Park, CO)—As many Coloradans begin cleanup efforts following last week’s massive flooding, military helicopters are beginning a massive rescue operation to try and find the hundreds of people who are still missing and unaccounted for. (Photo: AP)

Weather conditions on the ground in Boulder, where at least 16 helicopters are stationed, consisted of fog and lingering rain this morning, but officials were confident it would clear by noon. Over a thousand people are being deployed by air and on foot for the search and rescue mission.

Those who are stranded by the flood were instructed to wave white sheets or reflective mirrors, or flares and signals files to alert rescuers of their location. (Photo: AP)

A flash flood watch for Boulder County is still in effect until 7:00 pm today.
