Dr. Alveda King Calls for Calm; Rebukes Media for Promoting Violence After Zimmerman Acquittal

Dr. Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, has called for peace following outbursts of violence related to the George Zimmerman verdict.

"We do deeply grieve what happened to Trayvon," she said, "but … we're one human race and we need to get along."

King had pointed words for the American media: "I say to the media, stop it. Stop instigating. Please ...I'm talking to you with sincerity and integrity ...if you're inspiring people to violence, ask yourself why you're doing that."

"This is a transformational moment," she concluded, referring to the path of non-violence Americans can choose to take. "Let's take that moment and act together."
