Preborn baby(Monaco)—I remember being excited about the ultrasound I had while pregnant with my son. Compared with the amazing images the machines can produce today, however, that photo—though still treasured—was black and white, grainy and unclear at best. (Image: GE Heathcare/SPL/Barcroft)

Ultrasound machines and software have come a long way in twenty-three years!

One doctor in particular; Dr. Bernard Benoit, of the Princess Grace Hospital in Monaco, has been working on developing better imaging. He is reportedly known around the world for his technological advances with ultrasounds.

Dr. Benoit's work is not only appreciated by expectant parents, but it has also allowed doctors to identify medical problems with preborn babies very early on in the womb.

In one photo, the baby-in-utero appears to be smiling, and in another amazing photo of preborn twins, you can see the top and bottom "bunks" where the siblings are developing in the womb.

Beside the wonderful sonic images of their child, expectant patients can even have a video of their ultrasound which they can take home with them; a clear reminder of the precious life they're carrying.
