(Israel)—A huge storm hit Israel Tuesday morning bringing torrential rain and damaging, gale force winds that shut down Tel Aviv's major highway, the Ayalon, for the first time in 21 years.

The report said that in a "rare meteorological event" for Israel, several weather fronts converged at once over the country, bringing plummeting temperatures, four inches of rain in some parts and more than two feet of snow in high elevations.

Weather forecasts on Tuesday were predicting five inches of snow possible in Jerusalem by Wednesday.

Despite the ferocity of the storm, this winter's higher than average rainfall is a much-needed Godsend for the country's water levels.
