The 40 days of prayer were instigated as a result of gun crime resulting in this summer's shooting of a young girl who remains in a coma.

Sheriff Demings (Orlando, FL)—Jerry Demings, sheriff of Orange County, hopes that 40 days of prayer instigated by scores of churches in Orlando will stem the regions gun violence.

The program Demings calls "Operation Transformation" is in response to this summer's shooting of 15-year-old Danielle Sampson who is still in a coma from her injuries.

According to an Orlando Sentinel report, the prayer vigils, organized by chaplains from the sheriff's office, will be held through November 9.
