(Ottawa, Canada)—Nominee for Canada's "Wal-Mart Mom of the Year" award is Maria Pitman, a woman who refused to have an abortion even though she was battling breast cancer at the time.
As reported in LifeNews, Pitman's daughter Jocelyn, who nominated her mother for the award, said, "At 8-years-old, my mom was diagnosed with a stage 4 Wilm's tumor. She had surgery, 15 months of chemo, 6 weeks of radiation, and was told she could never have children.
After 25 years of perfect health, and six children, Jocelyn says her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer while pregnant with her 7th baby. Subsequently, Maria endured more chemo and radiation treatments, all while caring for, and homeschooling, her children.
Despite the dire medial warnings, Maria gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
"We are blessed to have her," says Jocelyn. "My mom is absolutely amazing, always putting us first while encouraging others with her story, positive attitude and being an example of God's love."
