As the proverbial "Prodigal", at one point pastor's son, while working as a janitor at a church, felt God lead him to kneel down on the floor. He heard God's voice tell him: "I'm calling you to the ministry. You're an idiot if you don't listen."
(Saraland, AL)—Rev. Clinton Hobbs, 66, pastors Fountain of Life Church with his son, 39-year-old Rev. Josh Hobbs. The story of how the father and son team came to be pastors of the same church is a testimony to God's grace and the power of His redemption. In fact, as Rev. Clinton himself admits, it reads like the parable of The Prodigal Son.
According to a Press-Register report, the elder Hobbs was set to retire in March when his son, elected as lead pastor, asked his father to stay on, ministering to their congregation's senior citizens.
Calling his son "the boss," Rev. Clinton gladly submits to Rev. Josh as the leader of the church, while his son says his father continues to serve as his "mentor." Mrs. Hobbs, Josh's mother, is referred to as "the spiritual leader of the family."
The report details the testimony of young Hobbs; how he lived a rebellious youth and suffered a failed marriage. At one low-point in his life, he tried to kill himself. With his finger on the trigger of the gun he had pointed beneath his chin, Josh says he suddenly heard a voice say to him, "This isn't the plan I have for you. I have a better plan for you."
Josh adds that he knew it was God's voice "because of what my father [Clinton] had taught me."
