Colorado Company Gets Creative Instead of Cutting Jobs
by

"I mean it is kind of like a family. You get close to people and you don't want to see anyone go." (Golden, CO)—It's been said that "necessity is the mother of invention." An aspect of that adage seems to be at play for one Colorado company whose creative alternatives to cutting jobs landed them in the news recently. Vision Land Consultants in Golden, Colorado, was—like everyone else—feeling the effects of the worsening economy. But the management did not want to begin laying off their employees, an action to which many other companies and corporations have had to resort.
According to the 9News.com report, Ken Ross, Project Manager for Vision Land Consultants, feared the worse. But when the alternative to losing his job was presented, the decision to take a pay cut wasn't difficult. "It was really kind of an easy pill to swallow," explained Ross. "Because what we're trying to do is not only survive, but be on the cusp where we can be ahead and take advantage of the situation when the economy turns around." That kind of forward vision is exactly what the company hopes will give them an edge once this downtrend is over, since they won't have to recruit and train new workers in the future. But that's not the only reason to hang onto their loyal employees… Company owner, Teresa Williams added that it's "kind of like a family. You get close to people and you don't want to see anyone go."
