The man had a pipe bomb strapped on which detonated on the platform. The man suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The explosion injured at least four people on the platform.

It happened near Time Square in midtown Manhattan in an underground passageway under 42nd Street. The blast filled the passageway with smoke, affecting throngs of Monday morning commuters.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders is tweeting that the president has been briefed on the situation.
