President Trump Backs Parents after EU Court Orders Their Baby Off Life SupportLittle baby Charlie Gard was supposed to have his life support turned off on last Friday but the hospital refused to let his parents, Chris Gard and Connie Yates, take him home to spend his last hours there. (Washington, DC)—[LifeSiteNews] On Monday, July 3, President Trump tweeted his support for Charlie Gard, the UK baby whose parents are fighting to keep him alive despite the orders of European courts that his hospital be allowed to turn off his life support against his parents' wishes. (Photo: FeatureWorld/via The Sun UK) Trump cited Pope Francis, who over the weekend issued a statement in support of the parents. The Pontifical Academy for Life, run by Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, had essentially sided with the hospital. The statement it issued missed the point about Charlie's parents rather than the state being allowed to decide whether to continue providing him with extraordinary care. Charlie was supposed to have his life support turned off on Friday. The hospital refused to let his parents, Chris Gard and Connie Yates, take him home to spend his last hours there.
