Netanyahu, Wife Meet with Survivors Lighting Torches at Holocaust Memorial

News Staff : May 4, 2016  CBN News

"I think that it is very symbolic and significant that approximately 70 years after the worst disaster to befall our people and humanity as a whole, you, Holocaust survivors are sitting here in the center of the sovereignty of the Jewish people in its new state, in its ancient land." - Benjamin Netanyahu

Family members accompanied each of the elderly survivors.

Netanyahu began by noting the symbolism some 70 years after the Nazi genocide.

"I think that it is very symbolic and significant that approximately 70 years after the worst disaster to befall our people and humanity as a whole, you, Holocaust survivors are sitting here in the center of the sovereignty of the Jewish people in its new state, in its ancient land. This is perhaps more symbolic than anything else," Netanyahu said.

He went on to say that when he brings international officials to the Yad VaShem memorial, his mission is always to tell them "one Yad VaShem is enough."

"Today our state is very, very strong. Jew hatred has not disappeared in the past 70 years; today it is directed at the state of the Jews. But the state is very, very strong. Our strength is your strength; it is the strength of your lives. It will not happen again," he said. (Screengrab via CBN News)

Sara Netanyahu, a psychologist by profession, said it is impossible to comprehend what they endured, calling them "true heroes" and "guiding lights of our people."

"From our hearts, we hold you in the highest regard, everything you have been through and your families," she said.

The six survivors shared details of their stories with the prime minister and his wife--how they survived the horrors and came home to Israel.

Meanwhile, a CBN News team is attending the Nuremberg Symposium in Krakow, Poland, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Nuremberg Trials.
