Oregon Pastor's Daughter Tells How Her Life Was Heroically Saved by Another UCC Victim as He Bled to Death

Aimee Herd : Oct 5, 2015  KPTV.com

"He saved my girl. I will forever call your son my hero."

(Roseburg, OR)—Eighteen-year-old Lacey Scroggins, one of the younger students at Umpqua Community College (UCC) is a survivor of last Thursday's deadly shooting, thanks in part to her wounded classmate's action as he lay dying. (Photo: Treven Anspach/via Facebook)

According to an AP report, and the account given by Lacey's father, Pastor Randy Scroggins, Lacey was in the very classroom the shooter had entered and begun his killing spree.

Lacey told her father how the killer ordered students to "crawl to the middle of the room" and then began shooting them.

Lacey was reportedly lying on the floor praying and acting like she was already dead, when she felt the student next to her, Treven Anspach, move against her, partially covering her.

She said Treven's blood was flowing onto her clothing. The killer was just inches from her when he demanded that she stand up—but Lacey didn't move.

In telling his daughter's story to his congregation, Pastor Randy said the killer then asked another student if Lacey was dead, the student replied, "I don't know." (Photo: Lacey and her father/Facebook)

He then reportedly stepped over Lacey and shot someone else.

Pastor Randy, speaking to Treven's mother on the phone said, "He saved my girl. I will forever call your son my hero."

Lacey (who was unhurt in the attack) is attending UCC as an aspiring surgeon.
