Prayers for California as Wildfires Double in Size: 12,000 Forced to Flee From Their Homes

And it's only the beginning of August.

(Sacramento, CA)—Thousands of lightning strikes in northern California have touched off a string of raging wildfires. Reports say that of the 20 or so fires currently being battled, the worst at present is 54,000 acres burning near the town of Lower Lake, north of San Francisco. (Photo: Reuters/via Charisma News)

It is estimated that 9,000 firefighters are battling the blazes.

To date, fires have closed parts of two state highways.

According to Reuters, "More than 12,000 people have received mandatory evacuation orders or advisories, while ground crews have managed to carve containment lines around just 5 percent of the fire's perimeter in the past two days."
