Star Trek's Leonard Nimoy, Passes On at 83"A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP." -Leonard Nimoy "Live long and prosper." That simple 'Vulcan' greeting, spoken by Mr. Spock—played by Leonard Nimoy—in Star Trek's original TV series quickly became a classic phrase. (Photo via ABC News) One could argue that Nimoy certainly did that, as the TV and movie star's granddaughter told ABC News that he had died on Friday morning. Nimoy reportedly suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and was in the end stages; which he revealed last year. He noted that his smoking habit likely contributed to his condition, and urged others to quit, in one of his tweets: “I quit smoking 30 yrs ago. Not soon enough. I have COPD... Smokers, please understand. If you quit after you’re diagnosed with lung damage it’s too late. Grandpa says learn my lesson. Quit now. LLAP." Nimoy's last tweet came earlier this week when he said: "A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP." The "LLAP" at the end of his tweets is an acronym for his iconic phrase: "Live Long And Prosper." Nimoy is survived by his wife, Susan Bay, and two children; Adam and Julie, according to the ABC News report.
