Faith Leaders Publicly Support Chief Justice Roy Moore and Call for Resisting Judicial Activism"Throughout our history, federal courts have supported slavery and segregation. Federal judges have crushed free speech and civil liberties. In all these cases, there have been heroic men who have peacefully resisted this unjust crushing of human rights and justice by the courts and federal judges. In fact, the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the powerful work of Dr. Martin Luther King were founded on the principles of resisting unjust court decisions." -Rev. Patrick Mahoney (Washington, DC)—A news conference [in support of Chief Justice Roy Moore] will be held on Wednesday, February 25, at 12:00 P.M. in front of the Alabama Judicial Building which is located at 300 Dexter Ave. in Montgomery, Alabama. (Photo via revrobschenck.com) Rev. Patrick Mahoney and Rev. Rob Schenck, who led the 10 Commandment rallies in 2003 at the Alabama Judicial Building, are organizing the news conference. Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition in Washington, DC, states; "Throughout our history, federal courts have supported slavery and segregation. Federal judges have crushed free speech and civil liberties. In all these cases, there have been heroic men who have peacefully resisted this unjust crushing of human rights and justice by the courts and federal judges. In fact, the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the powerful work of Dr. Martin Luther King were founded on the principles of resisting unjust court decisions. "We are calling for a peaceful national campaign of 'resistance' in which citizens, elected officials, community leaders and members of the clergy all work together to stand against judicial overreach and embrace Constitutional freedoms and justice in our nation." "Chief Justice Roy Moore has had a consistent history of intelligently and appropriately challenging excessive federal court power. Preserving our most treasured liberties demands a careful balance between state and federal authority. As two U.S. Supreme Court justices have found, deference should be paid to the people of any state as these types of disputes are resolved. Our delegation of clergy will support this critical founding principle of our nation by prayerfully standing with the Chief Justice and with other judges of Alabama." Rev. Ken Johnson, Pastor of Seaman Community Methodist Church in Adams County Ohio who was arrested in 2003 for peacefully kneeling around the 10 Commandments in the Alabama Judicial Building, comments; "I am deeply disheartened when Federal courts interfere with the will of the people. The State of Alabama passed the Defense of Marriage Act with an 81% majority. "A single District court with a territorial jurisdiction smaller than the state of Alabama is now attempting to force the entire state to align with its views. Why cannot the court uphold the view of the majority of citizens and continue to recognize marriage in the same manner as it has for thousands of years?"
