From Jeremiah to Ferguson: A Road Trip Report from Dr. Alveda King

Dr. Alveda King : Oct 29, 2014  RestoreTheDream2014.com

"In the presence of all the hype, one factor is noticeably absent: God is neither a Democrat nor a Republican. I have a dream; it is in my genes. My father AD King, my Uncle ML, and my grandfather Daddy King had dreams too. Our collective dream has always been for the nation and the world, regardless of our differences. The common denominator of agape love can unite the human race." -Dr. Alveda King.

airliftIn September 2014 I accepted an invitation from Niger Innis of The Congress on Racial Equality (CORE) to join him in launching a new initiative, RestoreTheDream2014.com. After prayer and consideration, I took a week off from work to join Niger on what has turned out to be a whirlwind tour of revelation and mind boggling transformation of hearts and communities. What is our message?

Jobs – Let the PEOPLE work!

Life – Let the PEOPLE live long and prosper!

Family – Let the PEOPLE [SPIRIT, SOUL and BODY] heal!

Education – Let the PEOPLE know.

Security – Let the PEOPLE pray.

THE WORD – "Let my PEOPLE go!"

WE ARE THE PEOPLE!!!

Pray for Peace and Justice!

From October 20-25, 2014, we were on the road. Interestingly my daily Bible readings in the book of Jeremiah along with other Scriptures have provided a very powerful and reliable "road map" for us to follow along the way.

airliftIn this report, I won't be able to record the names of all of the great and powerful leaders and community members whom we have either met for the first time or reconnected with. They are great men and women in our network, and it would be a slight not to acknowledge them, if not by name, then at least by the spirit in which their contributions are received. Here follows a condensed schedule of events. More will follow in the days to come. An unlikely coalition of conservatives and liberals are coming together in a way that only God can orchestrate. In some ways, Niger and I have agreed that he will take the "political" lead while I prayerfully focus on the spiritual aspects of the campaign. That doesn't mean that Niger doesn't pray and that I don't vote; of course we are united in our efforts. We each just do what we do best, while working on the road with Communications Director Joel, and publicists Dianne and Ruth from Brimstone Services. What a team God has provided. And special thanks to all of our constant prayer partners; we wouldn't want to try to do this without your help! God bless everyone!

Psalms 96:2 "Sing to the Lord; praise His name. Each day proclaim the good news that He saves. 3 Publish His glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things He does. 4 Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above all gods."

airliftIn a fearful and yet hopeful way, we have embarked on this quest. It is not an impossible dream, and against all odds, we are moving forward; crying out for mercy in the midst of judgment... (Photo via RestoreTheDream2014.com)

2 Timothy 4:1 New Living Translation: "I solemnly urge you in the presence of God and Christ Jesus, who will someday judge the living and the dead when He appears to set up his Kingdom: 2 Preach the Word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching. 3 For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will reject the truth and chase after myths. 5 But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don't be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you."

Our team could tell you that the only thing that has held us together during this journey has been the presence of God. There were a few times that I became very "rattled" and they were concerned. We found ourselves seeking God with all of our hearts.

Psalms 94:17-19 "Unless the Lord had helped me, I would soon have settled in the silence of the grave. I cried out – I am slipping! – but Your unfailing love, O Lord, supported me. When doubts filled my mind, Your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer."

airliftWhile reading reports from righteous co-warriors on the road, I found myself asking:
Psalms 94:20-22 "Can unjust leaders claim that God is on their side – leaders whose decrees permit injustice? They gang up against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. But the Lord is our fortress; our God is the mighty rock where we hide!" (Photo via RestoreTheDream2014.com)

Along the way, people started calling us, telling us that they were praying Psalms 91 with us! We were comforted by the promises of God from the Old Testament, and from Jesus in the New Testament, that He would never leave us or forsake us!

Moses at the Burning Bush
Exodus 3:11 "But Moses said to God, 'Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?' 12 And He said, 'Certainly I will be with you, and this shall be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall worship God at this mountain.' 13 Then Moses said to God, 'Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel, and I will say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you.' Now they may say to me, 'What is His name?' 'What shall I say to them?'"

My Uncle ML (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) is often called a "Black Moses." We know that Moses went to his mountaintop, and so did Uncle ML. I must admit that I sometimes feel like Moses may have felt; asking God "who am I that I should go across America proclaiming Jubilee? And God responds to me and to you as well: "I will be with you!"

Well, on October 20, 2014 a group of valiant warriors met at the MLK Mountaintop Memorial in DC and a new journey began. You can meet the growing company of leaders at our new website. God promises to be with us, and we ask you to join us at: RestoreTheDream2014.com.

airliftFriends, not only did God bless us at the DC Press Conference and launch of restorethedream2014.com; at the media blitz in New York City; and at a powerful voter education/prayer meeting in North Carolina with Dr. Johnny Hunter, Pastor P. L. Wooden, Bishop E. W. Jackson, and other powerful leaders; we kept going. (Photo via RestoreTheDream2014.com)

We went on to Ferguson, MO where our first stop was a "Tent Meeting" with www.thefergusonresponse.com headed up by longtime friend, JT (Jonathan Tremaine) Thomas and other Christian leaders. We arrived on Day 19 of the meetings, where the testimonies of healings, deliverances and salvation from the 21-Day Long Tent Meeting were overflowing throughout the Ferguson community.

The next day we joined Dr. A. Wayne Jones and other powerful spiritual leaders of the AAHMO Embassy Collaborative for a prayerful briefing regarding the state of Ferguson. We departed their company for hopeful conversations with local officials including the mayor, police chief and a feisty state legislator.

On the tour, we experienced many Prophetic Prayer Meetings where we prayed with men, women and children from various spiritual, ethnic, political and socio-economic backgrounds. When our journey began, I had been reading Jeremiah for days. When we joined Dr. Jones in Ferguson, it was revealed that all of the women ministers at that meeting had been studying the book of Jeremiah simultaneously. Together, we prayed over Jeremiah 44:19—and repented for the spirit of rebellion among women.

As we were winding to a close, Niger was invited to speak to a Men's Prayer Group on Friday evening. His message was well received. Then finally, on Saturday, October 25, 2014, there was the 21st Day of the Ferguson Response Tent Meeting, where Jonathan hosted a panel which included our friend Lynne Jackson, the great-granddaughter of the historical liberator Dred Scott. It was truly a blessing for Niger, Wayne Dupree and I to follow her on the panel; and later to meet Pastor Elchel Johnson, Pastor of Inspiring You Christian Church and Uncle of Michael Brown. He gave a very powerful prayer at the Tent Meeting, which he had attended throughout.

All in all, this was an incredible tour bringing a message of faith, hope, love and unity to a hurting world. Please stay tuned and pray with us as we all see how God is answering the united prayer in response to 2 Chronicles 7:14 and indeed all of the sincere and fervent prayers of the saints that are bombarding Heaven during this time of trouble and yet hope and promise. God bless you until next time.
