"What Jesus Wants to See on Your Resume" Advice in USA Today for Job Hunters

News Release : Jul 7, 2014  Crown Financial Ministries

The paper's July 6 article highlights Biblical morals and ethics that are invaluable in the marketplace.

resume(Knoxville, TN)—When you're looking for what to include on your resume in this current, job-poor economy, Crown President Robert Dickie III says a book you may not have considered has some great advice—The Bible. In USA Today, Dickie asks, "Have you ever wondered what Jesus would like to see on a resume? It turns out that His short list is important to employers as well."

Topping the list, a willingness to work hard and a commitment to developing your talents. "All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty," notes Proverbs.

No one wants an employee more interested in the retirement package than the job description. The Apostle Paul wrote, "Be diligent (study) to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed."

And it will pay off. Proverbs 22:29 observes: "Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men." No matter how tight the job market, there is always a competition for the most talented individuals.

resumeHowever, it turns out that charitable efforts, volunteerism and an eye toward needs in the community make the list too.

In talking about the ultimate job review, Jesus detailed in Matthew 25 the kind of personal concern he wants people to show for others, especially the least among us. He asked people to be practical and personal in their concern.

A willingness to share your resources, time and talent with others has benefits in the workplace, in part because a person who looks to help others represents the kind of employee who builds up a team, sacrifices for the greater good, and who does not see self-aggrandizement alone as the only goal of a career.
