Missionaries in Papua New Guinea Gain a "Quiver full"

Aimee Herd : Aug 14, 2012 : Gavin and Carrie's Blog

"We praise God for His mercy and love in bringing these five new lives into ours." -Gavin and Carrie Jones

"Children are a gift from the LORD; are a reward from him. Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior's hands. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them! . . . " –Ps. 127:3-5

Gavin, Carrie and Isaac Jones (Dallas, TX)—Gavin and Carrie Jones' family of three—with son Isaac—quickly blossomed into a family of eight on August 9th, when Carrie delivered quintuplets.

The three boys and two girls were born prematurely—at UT southwestern Medical Center in Texas—but according to the overseeing doctor, the five little ones were "doing as expected for quintuplets born at 27 weeks."

Gavin and Carrie are missionaries in Papua New Guinea (PNG), and welcomed their new children with thankful hearts saying, "We praise God for His mercy and love in bringing these five new lives into ours. The whole delivery went flawlessly from beginning to end. The doctors, nurses, anesthesiologists, respiratory therapists, and everyone else on the UT Southwestern team were amazing."

Carrie and baby Carrie, who surprised the medical team by how quickly she was up and in to see the babies, blogged on Monday, "The babies were born at 27 weeks and 5 days, but because they are quints they were more like 27-week preemies than 28 week preemies. I'm just grateful for the additional 5 days, and sure would have chosen to go much longer! But it was obviously completely out of my hands when Will broke his water and got things going really quickly, and God is always sovereign. His plans are perfect, even when I don't understand them. And praise Him; all five babies are doing better in some way this morning. I will blog tonight, if able."

The Jones' have an ongoing blog that describes their missionary work in PNG. A statement at the top sums it up:

This is the blog for Gavin, Carrie, and Isaac Jones. We (usually) live in Papua New Guinea and are working to support Bible translations in progress around the country. Gavin is a helicopter pilot and Carrie is a Public Health worker, primarily working with HIV/AIDS awareness. Isaac, our son, was born in January, 2004 and gives us tons of joy every day!

Gavin Jones introduced their five new little blessings with pictures of each one on their blog. Their names from oldest to youngest are: Will Edward, David Stephen, Marcie Jane, Seth Jared and Grace Elise. The couple posted a specific prayer request after the birth of the quints.

* That we may glorify God in all that we do in each minute of the day
* God's wisdom and guidance for all the personnel taking care of the babies
* For the babies' health and growth:
(Weight gain for each baby)
(That God would continue to knit our babies together in awe and wonder in His image now that they are out of the womb)
* For Carrie's healing after the c-section
* That God would protect Carrie from postpartum depression
* That we may prepare well practically and mentally for the coming parenting challenges
* God's provision in physical help and finances
* That we may remain outwardly focused in times like this
