Tim Tebow's Father's Day Message: We Need More Role Models

Aimee Herd : Jun 19, 2012 : Anugrah Kumar - Christian Post Contributor

"The world looks at me as a football player who's a Christian, but I look at the world and say, 'I'm a Christian who happens to play football.'"

Tim Tebow (San Diego, CA)—Just when you may have thought interest in Tim Tebow was waning of late, 26,000 people converged on Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, Sunday, as the NY Jets backup QB gave a Father's Day message.

According to a report by the Christian Post, Tebow spoke about his relationship with his own father, Bob, as he pointed out the current need for genuine role models to the next generation.

U-T San Diego quoted Tebow as saying, "You have in today's society so many famous athletes… If we would come together and be great role models, it would be amazing to see how the next generation turns out."

"For me, it was about watching my dad," Tebow explained. "Because he could say whatever he wanted, but I watched him—how he acted, how he treated my mom, how he treated my four siblings, and that's where I learned the most from my dad; because it wasn't about what he said, it was about what he did."

While Tim primarily spoke about his father, he ended his message with a statement about Father God: "If I know that without a shadow of a doubt that I'm going to spend eternity in Heaven with my Heavenly Father, then there's not a better Father's Day than that."
